Troncmittel Umwelt: Grants for nature and environmental protection projects
The state capital of Wiesbaden provides financial support for nature and environmental protection projects. Grants from the casino's so-called tronc funds can be applied for from the Environmental Agency. The tronc originally referred to the tip box at roulette.
The term "Tronc" is now used for the pro rata casino funds, from which taxes are also paid to the municipal budgets. In Wiesbaden, one eighth of the annual funds are available for environmental and nature conservation projects.
Funding is provided for measures and campaigns in the areas of environmental protection and nature conservation that benefit the general public (non-profit purpose). There should be a clear "Wiesbaden connection". In accordance with the framework guidelines, the funded projects may not cause any follow-up costs in the municipal budget.
Individuals as well as groups, associations and initiatives can apply if they are voluntarily implementing a project for environmental protection, nature conservation or environmental education. School support associations can also receive support, for example if they are designing a "green classroom", carrying out an orchard project or building a dry stone wall.
An application for Troncmittel Umwelt can be submitted at any time. Grants are awarded once a year; all applications received by the end of April are considered. The decision on the use of the available funds is made by the Environment Committee.
