Westend: The liveliest part of Wiesbaden

The Westend is a colorful, diverse district that inspires with its culture, international diversity and quality of life.

Colorful and young

The Westend is the smallest district in terms of area and at the same time the most densely populated. The youngest population in the city lives here and almost half of the residents have a migration background. This diversity gives the Westend a unique identity.

Inner and outer Westend

The Westend begins west of Schwalbacher Straße. Up to the First Ring, it is referred to as the inner Westend, from then on as the outer Westend. It is bordered to the north by Emser Strasse and to the south by Dotzheimer Strasse. The architectural diversity ranges from old classicist buildings with magnificent facades to modern projects. In the outer Westend, the cityscape is dominated by classical buildings with beautiful façades, while in the inner Westend, urban renewal projects are modernizing the old buildings.

The inner Westend, especially along Wellritzstrasse and Bleichstrasse, is lively and somewhat rowdy, while the outer Westend is much quieter up to Elsässer Platz. Streets such as Blücherstrasse and Scharnhorststrasse are mainly home to organic cafés and boutiques.

Wellritzstrasse

The Kubis e. V. association shows how committed citizens actively promote and develop the strengths of the district. The initiative promotes the international mix of businesses and supports projects to upgrade Wellritzstrasse. This busy shopping street - now a pedestrian zone - is a worthwhile destination for culinary discoveries.

Quality of life in the middle of the action

Despite its density, Westend offers a high quality of life. Parking spaces are scarce and traffic is present, but the district scores with affordable rents and its proximity to schools, kindergartens and a community center in the Alte Gewerbeschule. People from different backgrounds meet here. A daily lunch is offered for senior citizens in the Bürgersaal at Blücherstraße 12. Clubs are also based here.

Recreation and leisure

Those looking for relaxation will find it in the nearby Dürer-Anlagen. Nature lovers, walkers and families with children can enjoy their time here. And if you want to end the day in a relaxed atmosphere, there are numerous bars and pubs offering something for every taste. The special Westend vibe is particularly evident in the evenings around Sedanplatz.

Highlight in the Westend

No longer a parking lot, not yet a park: Elsässer Platz is being redesigned and transformed into a lively meeting place for everyone with new play and green spaces and climate-friendly greenery.

From the statistics

With an area of 0.67 square kilometers, Westend is the smallest district in Wiesbaden.
