Nature and recreation on the Rhine

Kostheim is located where the Main flows into the Rhine. The Maaraue, the landscape conservation area, not only offers a magnificent view of the Rhine and Mainz Cathedral, but also a large outdoor pool and natural areas for walking and relaxing. The Maaraue invites you to go for walks and gives the summer a special atmosphere.

History and tradition

Kostheim has an eventful history dating back to the time of Emperor Barbarossa, who had a large Whitsun festival held on the Maaraue. Today, the historical flair of the district characterizes the quality of life of its residents.

AKK district

Kostheim is part of the AKK districts - Amöneburg, Kastel and Kostheim. Originally districts of Mainz, they were assigned to Wiesbaden by the American military government after the Second World War. The addition of the name Mainz- is a reminder of this historical connection to this day. This dual identity offers residents particular advantages: they benefit from Wiesbaden's infrastructure and services while retaining their cultural and historical roots in Mainz. The proximity to both cities also promotes exchange in areas such as business, culture and club life.

Growth and development

Kostheim is one of the fastest growing districts in Wiesbaden. A new industrial area and the development of former industrial sites, such as the Schollmeyer sawmill and the Linde site, offer space for numerous new apartments and jobs. The population is expected to increase by 15 percent by 2030. The first stage of the new construction on the Linde site was already completed in 2021, further driving the transformation of the district.

A highlight in Kloppenheim

The approximately 15-metre-high observation tower at Kostheim harbour offers an impressive panoramic view: the Main shortly before it flows into the Rhine, the Kostheim lock, the bridge to Ginsheim-Gustavsburg and historic Alt-Kostheim with its mix of commercial and residential areas.

From the statistics

Kostheim offers 14.3 percent subsidized apartments, a clear advantage for low- and middle-income households. In the city of Wiesbaden as a whole, six percent of apartments are subsidized.
