Addiction
Addictions come in many different forms and varieties.
Addiction does not necessarily only revolve around drugs, alcohol and nicotine. It can also take the form of addiction to gambling, online, sex, sport or medication, for example. This is why we now also speak of addiction disorders, which can be psychological or physical in nature.
In Germany, over eight million people are affected by a dependency disorder. This always affects a specific person, who has a face and an individual life story. In most cases, it is not only the person affected who suffers; sooner or later, their family, friends and acquaintances are also confronted with their addiction.
The path to addiction is often gradual. This makes it all the more difficult to find a way out. But how do you recognize an addiction? You should be concerned if you or someone you know shows the following symptoms:
- Continuing the addiction despite being aware of the harmful consequences.
- Withdrawal symptoms if the addiction cannot be satisfied, both physically and mentally.
- Tolerance development, more and more of the substance is needed
- Neglect of other interests such as friends, family, hobbies
