Why is the state capital of Wiesbaden organizing this competition?
On March 17, 2025, Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, Head of European Affairs Maral Koohestanian and Head of Transport Andreas Kowol unveiled the new "European City" signs. They now greet Wiesbaden residents and guests at 29 entrances to the city.
The signs are a symbol of Wiesbaden's close ties to other European cities and a commitment to shared European values. In the state capital of Wiesbaden, Europe can be seen, among other things, in the exchange and cooperation with the twin cities as well as in numerous projects that are implemented in cooperation with other European municipalities.
With the unveiling of the signs, the state capital of Wiesbaden would also like to invite all Wiesbaden residents to reflect on what Europe means to them and what place it has in their lives.
Prize: Two Interrail Global Passes (7 travel days within one month)
Prize: Two day tickets for Europa-Park in Rust
Prize: Two 2nd class train tickets of your choice; to Strasbourg or Brussels
The winners will receive their prizes in the form of grant certificates. They must initially purchase the tickets themselves, but the state capital of Wiesbaden promises to cover the ticket costs at a later date.
Who can take part in the competition?
All persons aged 18 and over who have registered their first or second place of residence in the state capital of Wiesbaden are eligible to participate. Members of the city administration are excluded from participation.
Where are the "City of Europe" signs?
The European signs are located at the entrances to the streets named below. Approximate locations of the signs can also be found on the maps attached below. Some of the signs are not within safe walking distance and are therefore not suitable for taking a safe photo. Do not put yourself or other people in danger by taking a photo.
Only one entry per participant is permitted. Multiple entries are therefore not possible.
Any violation of the conditions of participation may lead to exclusion from the competition and, if necessary, to subsequent forfeiture and reclaiming of the prize.
Can I change my submission at a later date?
The submission can no longer be changed after it has been sent.
How are the winners determined?
The winners will be selected on the basis of the submitted answer to the question "What does Europe mean to me?".
It is important that the entries submitted answer the question clearly, are formulated in an understandable way and make a recognizable reference to Europe and/or the EU. The statements should give as personal a perspective as possible on the role Europe and/or the EU plays or has played in the lives of the participants, for example in the form of experiences, encounters or convictions. Statements can also address European values and achievements or aspects such as diversity, community, freedom and cooperation in Europe.
Offensive, factually incorrect, discriminatory, inflammatory or similarly themed submissions will not be considered. The same applies to submissions that promote a specific political party.
When and where will I find out if I have won?
The winners will be announced on May 21, 2025 at www.wiesbaden.de/europa/gewinnspiel with their name and statement. They must contact the state capital of Wiesbaden themselves by emaileuropa.prwiesbadende within 14 days of the announcement in order to accept their prize. When accepting the prize, it is essential to provide the postal address given when submitting the statement and photo.
