Eurocities
Cities across Europe are confronted with the same challenges. More than 200 cities have therefore joined the Eurocities network to exchange solutions that have already been implemented and to jointly develop new solutions. Wiesbaden is now making greater use of this opportunity.
What is Eurocities?
Eurocities is a European city network to which more than 200 cities from a total of 38 countries have already joined. Together, these cities represent more than 150 million people. Eurocities promotes the exchange of information and joint projects between cities. Each city can learn from the successful solutions of other cities and share its own solutions.
Why Eurocities?
Three out of four people in Europe live in cities - and the number is set to increase. The fact that more and more people are settling in urban centers is exacerbating known problems and creating new ones. However, if cities succeed in finding solutions and implementing them in a targeted manner, a large number of people will benefit directly.
Cities across Europe are facing the same challenges: Housing shortages. Increasing social inequality. The effects of climate change.
Individual cities are barely able to cope with the multitude of problems. In order to maintain the quality of life and become sustainable, it is essential that cities share their experiences and find joint solutions to the same problems.
The following key topics are addressed in over 40 working groups: Culture, Social Affairs, Environment, Transport, Economy and Digital.
At the same time, Eurocities is committed to ensuring that cities and municipalities are involved in European decision-making processes and that the concerns of European cities are heard.
Wiesbaden is now getting more involved and would initially like to become more active in the areas of digitalization, smart city and funding management. In the future, cooperation will also be extended to the network's other areas.
