Housing Benefit Plus

On January 1, 2023, the major housing benefit reform with Housing Benefit Plus was launched.

The new Housing Benefit Plus was launched on January 1, 2023. This is the largest housing benefit reform ever adopted by a federal government. The number of eligible households nationwide will increase from around 600,000 to 2,000,000. The average amount of housing benefit will increase immediately from 180 euros per month (without the reform) to around 370 euros.

The Bundesrat approved the housing benefit reform on November 25, 2022. Since then, we as the housing benefit authority have had certainty about the conditions under which we will be able to pay out housing benefit in the future. The current application figures suggest that we in Wiesbaden will have to prepare for a tripling of the workload in the long term. Unfortunately, we will not be able to cope with this overnight. One of our most important tasks at the moment is to recruit and train new employees as quickly as possible.

Due to this initial situation, the current processing times for applications are taking longer than six months. We are working hard to reduce this waiting time. Please note the information in this regard.
