William H. Tunner
On June 21, 1956, the outgoing Commander-in-Chief of the American Air Force in Europe, General William H. Tunner, signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.
After Lieutenant General William H. Tunner, the Commander-in-Chief of the American Air Force in Europe, was transferred back to the United States, Lord Mayor Erich Mix suggested that he be entered in the Golden Book as a sign of the City of Wiesbaden's gratitude and solidarity.
The magistrate and city council welcomed this suggestion with resolution no. 912 of June 21, 1957. On the same day, the Lord Mayor received the American in the town hall and thanked him for his commitment and services.
Tunner emphasized the importance of German-American friendship for international security. He will remember the wonderful time he spent in the state capital. He then signed the city's Golden Book.
