Wiesbaden - Royal Tunbridge Wells
On November 25, 1970, a delegation from the twin town of Royal Tunbridge Wells signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.
Wiesbaden's connection to the southern English town of Royal Tunbridge Wells goes back to 1959, when Edgar Pinckert and Fred Thornton, two former enemies, met through a soldier's magazine and decided to work towards a peaceful future and cooperation between their home towns. Ten years later, political representatives from both cities began to discuss the possibility of working together.
Finally, on November 25, 1970, a delegation from Tunbridge Wells led by the mayor, Ronald Woodland, traveled to Wiesbaden. There, the English were given a ceremonial welcome by Lord Mayor Schmitt in the ballroom of the town hall. All of the representatives paid tribute to the work done so far, such as youth exchanges and visits from various clubs.
The political and administrative cooperation was then manifested in a friendship treaty. This was followed by an entry in the city's Golden Book.
