Further archives in Wiesbaden

In addition to the city archive, other archives are located in Wiesbaden.

As the state capital, Wiesbaden is the seat of the Hessian State Parliament. The documents of the State of Hesse are stored in the Hessian State Archives. The state of Hesse maintains three state archives. These include the Hessian Main State Archives in Wiesbaden, as well as the Hessian State Archives in Darmstadt and the Hessian State Archives in Marburg.

Wiesbaden is also home to other institutions and facilities that maintain their own archives, meaning that the city has a rich archive landscape.

Other archives based in Wiesbaden are

  • Hessian State Archives, Wiesbaden Main State Archives Department: The Hessian State Archive is the central point of contact for anyone who wants to get up close and personal with the history of the federal state and its predecessor territories. It also looks after the subordinate state offices in the Wiesbaden region. The service library of the Hessian Main State Archives is a reference library with a collection of around 100,000 volumes.
