Sir Yehudi Menuhin

On July 14, 1990, Sir Yehudi Menuhin signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.

On the evening of July 14, 1990, violin virtuoso and maestro Sir Yehudi Menuhin conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London as part of the Rheingau Music Festival. Before the concert, the musician and his wife were received in the festively decorated town hall.

Lord Mayor Achim Exner was delighted to welcome Sir Menuhin, another prominent conductor after Paul Hindemith and Wilhelm Furtwängler, to Wiesbaden. The likeable artist expressed his thanks for the warm welcome and praised the beauty of Wiesbaden and the region. Sir Menuhin placed particular emphasis on the excellent wines of the Rheingau.

He then signed the city's Golden Book with his wife in joyful gratitude, before being presented with a marzipan violin as a gift from the head of the city. The fact that this memento did not have a bow was not a problem for the virtuoso, as the advantages of this sweet instrument did not lie in its musical abilities.
