At the start of the SPD national party conference on November 15, 1993 in Wiesbaden, Lord Mayor Achim Exner welcomed the party leadership to a reception in the town hall.

The head of the city was delighted to welcome his colleagues from the federal party and wished them every success for the super election year 1994.

The newly elected federal chairman, Rudolf Scharping, thanked them for the warm welcome and the good organization in the spa town. He then signed the city's Golden Book on behalf of the 480 delegates at the federal party conference, followed by other top politicians such as Johannes Rau, Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, Renate Schmidt, Wolfgang Thierse, Günter Verheugen and Oskar Lafontaine.
