Delegation of the New Democratic Party of Canada

On September 7, 1963, a delegation from the New Democratic Party of Canada signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.

The New Democratic Party of Canada was formed in 1961 through the merger of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation and the Canadian Labor Congress.

The social democratic party forms the left edge of the Canadian party spectrum. In the 2011 elections, the New Democratic Party received 30.62% of the vote and is the strongest opposition party with 102 seats in parliament.

Under its first chairman Tommy Douglas, the organization's international relations were expanded in the 1960s in order to benefit from the experience of other members of the Socialist International.

In this context, a delegation from the party visited the Federal Republic of Germany in September 1963. During their stay in Wiesbaden, they were received by Lord Mayor Buch in the town hall on September 7.

After an exchange on common political goals, the guests from Canada signed the city's Golden Book.
