Your visit to the reading room of the city archive
The Wiesbaden City Archive welcomes around 350 visitors to its reading room every year. Good preparation for your visit increases the likelihood that you will find exactly the answers you are looking for to your historical question.
Consult the stocks online in advance
The holdings of the Wiesbaden City Archive can be searched online via the archive information system "Arcinsys Hessen". Please use the online search engine "Faust" to search the service library. You can search these search engines as well as "Arcinsys" by keyword and in the form of a systematic search via the tectonics. Orders can also be placed directly via "Arcinsys". If you do not find any or only insufficient results for your search query, please contact the specialist archivist responsible. The easiest way to do this is to send an e-mail to stadtarchivwiesbadende.
The more precisely you describe your query and any existing information, the better we will be able to help you in your search for archive material and publications. Please also find out in advance about any applicable protection periods and special terms of use. Simple information is free of charge for users, as is the use of archive materials in the reading room. This includes, in particular, all information about the archive material stored at the Wiesbaden City Archive. In the case of inquiries that require the inspection of archive material ("commissioned research"), fees are charged, the amount of which can be found in the appendix to the user regulations for the Wiesbaden City Archive.
Reserve a place in the reading room
In order to be able to offer you the best possible service, please make an appointment before your visit at lesesaal.stadtarchivwiesbadende or by telephone on 0611 / 31-4385 and let us know the shelfmarks of the archives you would like to view.

Using the archives in the reading room
The use of the archives is subject to the regulations of the user regulations, which you can download below. These rules serve to protect the archives and improve working conditions for all users. Bags must be locked in the lockers provided when entering the rooms. Smoking, eating and drinking as well as behavior that disturbs other archive users are prohibited in the reading room. Archive and library materials must be treated with special care.
During use, you can order professional reproductions (scans, photocopies) of the archive materials for a fee. You can, of course, take photos of the archive materials you are using with your own smartphone or digital camera free of charge. Please note that these photos must not damage the archive material and must not disturb other users. For certain documents, there are restrictions on the creation of reproductions for legal reasons. This also applies to taking photographs with your own equipment. The reading room supervisor will be happy to inform you about this.
All visitors must complete a user registration form when visiting the City Archives. This is done online via "Arcinsys". To make your visit to the City Archives as efficient as possible, you can fill out the user registration form online in "Arcinsys" from the comfort of your own home. PC workstations are also available in the reading room.
