After his visits to Hanau and Frankfurt, the President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, traveled on to Wiesbaden by helicopter on the evening of June 25, 1963.

At the "General von Steuben Hotel", today's "Dorint Pallas", he had a one-on-one meeting with Vice Chancellor Ludwig Erhard. Both were then received by the Hessian Minister President Georg August Zinn in the Kurhaus.

On this occasion, Kennedy signed the city's Golden Book. On the morning of June 26, the Commander-in-Chief of the American Air Force in Europe, General Truman H. Landon, accompanied the President to the airfield in Erbenheim. From there, the American delegation traveled on in Air Force One to Berlin, where Kennedy gave his famous speech in front of Schöneberg City Hall on the afternoon of the same day.
