Prof. Dr. James B. Conant

On May 18, 1953, the American High Commissioner for Germany, Prof. Dr. James B. Conant, signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.

On May 16, 1953, the magistrate decided in document no. 683 that the American High Commissioner Prof. Dr. James B. Conant should be asked to sign the city's Golden Book during his visit to Wiesbaden.

Due to the size of the delegation and the importance of the visit for the entire state of Hesse, the reception was held in the state parliament. In his speech, Prime Minister Zinn referred to the successful integration of almost one million displaced persons after the Second World War. He thanked the distinguished guest for the support of the United States.

Prof. Dr. Conant emphasized the important role of Hessian citizens who had contributed to the development and prosperity of America in the past. He hoped that this commitment would now be maintained in Hesse in order to shape a peaceful future together. Afterwards, he and his wife signed the city's Golden Book.
