III Wiesbaden Riding, Show Jumping and Driving Tournament
On 25 May 1931, the organizers of the Wiesbaden Riding, Jumping and Driving Tournament signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.
The origins of the Wiesbaden International Whitsun Tournament date back to 1929. At that time, the Wiesbadener Reit- und Fahr-Club, founded in 1927, held the first Whitsun tournament on the Kleinfeldchen grounds; as this site was unable to cope with the crowds, it was moved to the racecourse in Erbenheim for two years. Due to problems with the ground, the tournament was held on the club's own tournament ground "Unter den Eichen" until the outbreak of the Second World War.
In 1949, the first Whitsun tournament was held after the Nazi era. On the initiative of Wilhelm Dyckerhoff, the long-standing president of the Wiesbaden Riding and Driving Club, the competitions were held in Biebrich Palace Park with the approval of the American military administration.
Since then, the historic setting has served as the venue for the internationally renowned tournament every Whitsun, which has been held at Grand Prix level for the first time since 1990. Although May 1931 was only the third Whitsun tournament to be held, the city authorities recognized the importance of the event and honoured it with an entry in the city's Golden Book. This took place on May 25, 1931 at a meeting in the Kurhaus.
