On Sunday, October 18, 1959, the Governor of the US state of Michigan, Gerhard Mennen Williams, arrived in Wiesbaden for a three-day visit on his way back from his trip to the Middle East.

After being welcomed at Frankfurt Airport by State Secretary Bach, the visitor and his wife were escorted to the "Nassauer Hof" hotel for an overnight stay.

The next morning, Lord Mayor Mix welcomed the couple in the town hall. The Governor spoke of his ties to the region, as his grandmother came from Hanau.

After signing the Golden Book, the delegation traveled to the Main metropolis for further appointments with the American Commander-in-Chief in Europe and the Lord Mayor of Frankfurt, before Williams was received by Minister President Zinn in his official residence in the evening. After another night at the Nassauer Hof Hotel, the Americans traveled on to Bonn on October 20.
