2025

The city gets a new website.

2024

The Reinhard Ernst Museum of Abstract Art opens. It is supported by the Reinhard & Sonja Ernst Foundation. The donor couple receive honorary citizenship of the state capital of Wiesbaden.

2023

After ten years of construction, the new Schierstein Bridge between Mainz and Wiesbaden is opened.

The Historical Expert Commission for the Review of Traffic Areas, Buildings and Facilities Named after Persons in the State Capital of Wiesbaden presents its final report, in which it recommends renaming 18 of the 71 biographies examined and contextualization in twelve cases.

2020

In November, the third attempt to set up a streetcar in Wiesbaden fails in a referendum with 62 to 38 percent of the votes.

2019

The Ahmadiyya community opens the Mubarak Mosque in Dotzheim. It is the largest house of prayer of the Islamic reform community in Germany.

The American Arms Hotel in Frankfurter Strasse is demolished. Residential buildings are erected on the site.

2018

A statue of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Wiesbaden Biennale triggers an international debate on the subject of artistic freedom.

2016

The R+V high-rise on Wilhelmstrasse is demolished. A new high-rise is being built on Kureck.

2015

Wiesbaden ranks last among large cities in the major cycling climate test conducted by the German Cyclists' Federation (ADFC). The city will perform significantly better in the rankings in the coming years.

2014

The demolition of the Rhein-Main-Hallen begins. They are replaced by the RheinMain CongressCenter, which opens in 2018.

Heinz Schenk passes away in Wiesbaden-Naurod. Among other things, the actor was a long-time host of the entertainment program "Zum Blauen Bock".

Federal President Joachim Gauck visits the exhibition "Horizont Jawlensky" at the Museum Wiesbaden on a trip through Hesse.

2013

The Dutch royal couple King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima visit Wiesbaden. After signing the city's Golden Book, they visit the monument to the Dutch national hero William of Nassau-Dillenburg, Prince of Orange, in front of the Marktkirche.

2012

The ground-breaking ceremony marks the start of the redesign of Platz der Deutschen Einheit in Wiesbaden's Westend district. Public transport stops make way for the sports hall, which will also serve as the home of the Wiesbaden Volleyball Club (VCW).
