U.S. General T. H. Landon
On July 29, 1963, General T. H. Landon, Commander-in-Chief of the American Air Force in Europe, signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.
At the end of his service in Wiesbaden on July 31, 1963, the Commander-in-Chief of the American Air Force in Europe, General Truman H. Landon, was bid farewell by the Military District Administration IV with a grand taps ceremony in the stadium on Frankfurter Strasse.
As with his predecessors Smith and Tunner, the magistrate decided to express the thanks of the city's political representatives for the general's commitment in the form of an entry in the Golden Book.
Following the military farewell at noon on July 29, a ceremony was held in the town hall.
In a short speech, Landon expressed his thanks for a wonderful time in the state capital and reaffirmed the transatlantic friendship. Due to his German roots and the adoption of a German child, he feels closely connected to the Federal Republic of Germany and will often think of Wiesbaden.
Lord Mayor Buch praised the General as an always helpful and understanding person and presented him with six bottles of wine and a book about wine in art as a memento.
