The citizens of Wiesbaden had submitted many interesting proposals in response to the call from the Department of Culture in the spring. From these, a jury chaired by Dr. Hendrik Schmehl, Head of Cultural Affairs, selected the Singakademie as the winner. The jury consisted of Hartmut Bohrer (LINKE), Lea Eckert (SPD), Gabriele Enders (FDP), Nikolas Jacobs (CDU), Dr. Klaus-Dieter Lork (AFD), Petermartin Oschmann (FW/Pro Auto), Dorothée Rhiemeier (GRÜNE) and Maria Joao Xavier Vinha (VOLT) as well as Jörg-Uwe Funk, head of the cultural department, from the town hall parliamentary groups.

According to Dr. Hendrik Schmehl, Head of the Department of Culture, the special thing about the Singakademie is that every child can take part regardless of denomination or origin and without any previous knowledge. The Singakademie thus makes an important contribution to cultural participation in Wiesbaden.

About the Singakademie

The Singakademie is an institution of the Protestant Deanery of Wiesbaden and is based at the Lutherkirche. Founded in 2015, 250 children and young people now sing in 14 choir groups. This makes the Singakademie the largest children's and youth choir in Wiesbaden.

The children and young people are accompanied and supported in their musical and social development by a professional team led by artistic director Cantor Niklas Sikner. The aim is to promote the children's individual talents and to facilitate many joint concerts.

The focus is always on the joy of singing. The decision takes particular account of the criteria set out in 2023, such as innovation, sustainability, diversity and variety.
