Christa Moering Scholarship 2014

The jury of the Christa Moering Scholarship awarded by the state capital of Wiesbaden has chosen artist Alexandra Deutsch as the 2014 winner.

Prize winner 2014: Alexandra Deutsch.

Artists living, working or born in Wiesbaden were eligible to apply for the scholarship, which was publicly advertised. A total of 30 applications from all areas of the visual arts were received, all of which dealt with the theme of "The Fascination of Color". The six-member jury, chaired by Rose-Lore Scholz, Head of Cultural Affairs, agreed on the artist Alexandra Deutsch after a detailed review of all applications and intensive discussion.

It was not easy for the jury to make their choice due to the high quality of the works. After an in-depth exchange of arguments, the jury members clearly agreed on Alexandra Deutsch as the new scholarship holder. She is an artist who is recognized far beyond Wiesbaden and who, in addition to her artistic work as 2nd chairwoman of the "Bellevue-Saal" art association, is actively involved in the city on a voluntary basis. She was delighted with the jury's vote and is already looking forward to her exhibition.

Alexandra Deutsch was born in Karlsruhe in 1968 and studied fine art at the Academy of Fine Arts at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 1988 to 1995. In 1992, she studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Dijon, France. This was followed by numerous international awards, prizes and scholarships - for example in Peru, Brazil and Luxembourg.

Color, its energy and emotional impact are a consistent theme in her artistic work. The need to add physicality to color led her to create scooped paper, which she produces and shapes herself. Sculptural objects made of fabric are added, which, in addition to form and materiality, are also characterized by differentiated plays of colour. Works by the scholarship holder are expected to be on display at the Kunsthaus in 2015.

Members of the jury included Rose-Lore Scholz, Head of Cultural Affairs, Christa Knauer and Katharina Queck as representatives of the Cultural Committee, Agnes Maria Brügging-Lasar from the Frauenmuseum Wiesbaden, Thomas D. Trummer from the Kunsthalle Mainz and Dr. Isolde Schmidt from the Cultural Office.

The vernissage and the award ceremony took place on November 27, 2015, at the Kunsthaus. Alexandra Deutsch's exhibition entitled "Second nature - objects made of textile and paper" will be on display there from November 28 to January 31, 2016.
