The path of the Sinti and Roma
On May 29, 2018, the sam - Stadtmuseum am Markt in Wiesbaden - opened the exhibition "The Path of the Sinti and Roma". The first "Wiesbaden Culture Weeks against Antiziganism" were opened at the same time as the mobile presentation by the State Association of Sinti and Roma Hesse.
On the morning of the opening day, curator Dr. Engbring-Romang held a training session for schoolchildren in the museum. The project, called "Schüler guiden Schüler" (Pupils guide pupils), provides pupils with the necessary knowledge about the exhibition and enables them to guide their classmates through the exhibition independently. In Wiesbaden, the Klarenthals Campus and the Helene Lange School took part.
The exhibition "The Path of the Sinti and Roma" provided many insights for the visitors. It makes it clear where the negatively connoted images and views of the Sinti and Roma minority come from and how they have been passed on in art and literature over the centuries. As romanticizing and discriminatory prejudices are therefore still widespread and many people judge Sinti and Roma uncritically, it is all the more important to design exhibitions of this kind and reflect on them as broadly as possible. After all, knowledge of historical and cultural developments helps us to better understand the present and recognize connections. As an educational institution, it is particularly important to the Stadtmuseum Wiesbaden to support formats of this kind.
