Collecting is one of the five core tasks of a museum alongside preserving, researching, presenting and communicating. After a scientific appraisal and selection, objects are donated or purchased by the museum. Here, the acquisitions complement the existing collections, bring them together or expand them. The objects are preserved and their former function and significance are researched. Works of art, everyday objects or tools explain and pass on to us current or past living environments.
