Convention Wiesbaden Campus 8

Business festivals - transformation of traditional congresses

8th event - March 30, 2023

At Convention Campus Part 8, we discussed this topic with experts from agencies, companies and event organizers and tried to find out which elements of festivals can enhance business events and make them more attractive. Are business festivals a promising way to transform traditional conventions?

  • What factors make festivals special?
  • Which elements can also be adapted for business events?
  • From the perspective of event planners, are business festivals a way to address a larger target group and modernize traditional congresses?
  • Can these events also be realized online / hybrid or does the special character lie in the live experience?

Learnings from the keynotes

Business festivals aim to generate enthusiasm and inspiration among participants. The pure transfer of information is increasingly taking a back seat. The reason for this is the availability of information through digitalization, which means that anyone can now access the world's knowledge. The aim of events is increasingly tomake information tangible, to classify trends and to generate enthusiasm for topics and products. Of course, this is much easier in a relaxed atmosphere in casual clothing than in business attire.

So what are the building blocks / elements of a business festival?

  • A varied and relaxed stage program, several themed stages
  • Visual stage design influences the perception of the stage program. Instead of a lectern, use armchairs or a talk counter
  • Media presentation of the stage program: video recordings, photos, videos instead of classic slides, music recordings
  • Extended networking sessions with interaction opportunities for participants
  • Involvement of participants through surveys, polls, etc.
  • Side entertainment to liven things up, e.g. live band, graphic recording
  • Choice of methods to promote interaction, e.g. barcamp, fishbowl
