Saalburg

Statue of Antoninus Pius in front of the main gate

Located on the Taunus heights northwest of Bad Homburg, Saalburg was a fort with a camp village on the Limes in Roman times. Around 1900, Emperor Willhelm II had the fort, which at the time was in ruins and used as a quarry, rebuilt largely true to the original.

Today, numerous finds can be seen inside the fort: Crockery, jewelry, coins, tools, sculptures, weapons and much more can be viewed there. Together with models of buildings and landscapes as well as images and texts, visitors are given a realistic picture of the everyday life of the Romans in Germania.
