History meets modernity
The building is surrounded by a green area and its grounds are adjacent to the surrounding forest. The idyllic setting and the panoramic view are part of the location's special charm.
But the Platte hunting lodge is also an absolute architectural masterpiece. This is where history meets modernity. The glass roof construction is a particular eye-catcher of the castle. A double-sided spiral staircase connects the two floors. The steps are still an element from the time of construction and tell their very own story.
The Platte hunting lodge has existed since the 19th century: It was built in 1826 and was already one of the most popular houses in the city at the time. It served as the autumn residence of the ducal family of Nassau during the hunting season. During the Second World War, the building was destroyed down to its foundations. Over the years, the once magnificent castle looked like a ruin until the Stiftung Jagdschloss Platte e.V. foundation took care of it. The castle was rebuilt in 1989 and has been extended ever since.
The building materials used - wood, glass and steel - create the special charm of history and modernity and, together with the glass roof, give the location its unique character. The renovation work was completed in 2007. The result is impressive: See for yourself and arrange a viewing appointment to get to know this fantastic location with a view of the Rhine Valley.
