Evangelische Kirche Naurod

This church was built under the supervision of Johann Jakob Bager and was consecrated on 20 August 1730. The octagonal central structure in the Baroque style invites visitors to linger. It has room for about 350 persons. Although it is octagonal, it looks round, as the outer wall pillars are placed next to the windows so that the corners are barely visible. The roof is rounded off as well. In order to be able to build on the wet ground, a grid of pile grating made of about 250 oak trunks had to be driven into the ground and continues to form the foundation of the church until today. The altar is made of white-veined black marble from Nassau.

The pulpit and, by special permission of the Duke of Nassau contrary to the declared will of the church administration, the organ by Gottfried Weißhaupt are laid out above the altar. This is a typical example of a Protestant “preaching church“, in which the proclamation of God's word is central. The baptismal font and the lectern were designed by Frankfurt artist Ulrike Obenauer in 1998.

Sundays until 6 p.m. from March to October, and at any time by arrangement, keys may be obtained at the rectory and from the sexton

Sundays at 9.30 a.m., on the Saturday preceding the 2nd Sunday of the month at 7 p.m., on the last Sunday of the month at 5 p.m. as a rule (see local press)
