The Baroque Church of Igstadt was consecrated in the year 1728, after the previous church had been pulled down because of its dilapidated state and lack of space. Only the 15th century tower was preserved; however the nave was turned to the north by 90° during reconstruction, away from the usual east-west orientation, as the slope prevented expansion to the west. The chime comprises four bells. The oldest bell is from 1456 and was last restored in 1985. It is called "S V Anna", for "sancta virgo Anna".
Igstadt became Protestant in 1532, but remained affiliated with the Altmünsterkloster in Mainz. This probably explains why the nuns gave the parish the large crucifix with a depiction of Christ in 1781. The Baroque interior features, including the marble altar and baptismal font, wooden galleries, wooden pulpit and wooden pews and the pneumatic organ from 1904 fit harmoniously into the interior with its barrel vault and coffered ceiling. The church offers room for about 250 persons and is very well suited for concerts because of its excellent acoustics.
