Reinhard Ernst Museum

The Reinhard Ernst Museum presents over 860 paintings and sculptures from the field of abstract art on an area of around 2,000 square metres. The focus is on German and European post-war art, Japanese art and American Expressionism.

With the opening of the mre in 2024, the international art scene has gained a world-class museum specialising in abstract art. Some of the masterpieces on display here, dating from after 1945 to the present day, are being presented to the public for the first time.

The first presentation of the collection comprises a selection of 60 items, including paintings and sculptures by Tony Cragg, Helen Frankenthaler, Karl Otto Götz, Hans Hartung, Yūichi Inoue, Lee Krasner, Morris Louis, Tal R, Judit Reigl, Pierre Soulages, Tōkō Shinoda, Frank Stella, Atsuko Tanaka and Wolfgang Tillmans.

The Reinhard Ernst Museum exhibits works from the extensive art collection of entrepreneur Reinhard Ernst. The entrepreneur has been collecting abstract art since setting up his companies in the 1970s. His interest in paintings and sculptures grew during his business trips to Europe, Asia and the USA.

Bistro, museum shop & art education

In addition to a museum shop, the Museum Reinhard Ernst offers a bistro with an outdoor terrace facing Wilhelmstraße. There are also changing exhibitions, public events and art education programmes for children. In Wiesbaden's city centre, the museum complements the pedestrian cultural axis, which stretches from the Murnau-Filmtheater to the Schlachthof and the RheinMain CongressCenter via the Landesmuseum, the Nassauischer Kunstverein and the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine to the Hessisches Staatstheater.
