However, Frankfurt is not only a financial center, but also a city of the arts with an extraordinary theater and museum landscape with 40 museums. The museums on the banks of the Main are strung together like pearls on a necklace: from the Museum of Applied Arts to the German Architecture Museum, from the German Film Museum to the Städel Museum, there are a total of 16 museums and exhibition venues of international standing.

In the historic center of Frankfurt, in addition to the birthplace of Johann Wolfgang Goethe, there are important testimonies to German history in the form of the Kaiserdom, Römerberg and Paulskirche. All within walking distance of each other - just like the banks of the Main, which is an enjoyable promenade in the heart of the city with cocktail bars and green spaces. The traditional cider taverns on the Sachsenhausen side are more tranquil. Frankfurt also offers a wide range of activities for families, including the zoo, Palmengarten and the Senckenberg Museum, Germany's largest natural history museum.

The Museumsuferfest, one of Europe's largest cultural festivals, takes place every last weekend in August. The focus is on Frankfurt's museums, which are open late into the night with a colorful program. The festival has a different theme each year and offers visitors a unique combination of art and culture, music and gastronomy from many different countries around the world.

To bring the year to a festive close and get into the Christmas spirit, a visit to the traditional Frankfurt Christmas market, which takes place in the heart of the city on the Römerberg, is just the thing. With hot mulled wine or cider, you can be a human being here at one of Germany's oldest Christmas markets, to quote Goethe.
