Nerobergbahn
The Nerobergbahn is the oldest rack-and-pinion cableway in Germany powered by water ballast. As a funicular, its speed is regulated by a handbrake and the drive is based on gravity using water ballast. The season ended on November 3, 2024.
Season from Karting Friday to November 3
The Nerobergbahn runs daily every 15 minutes from 9 am to 7 pm. A combined ascent and descent costs five euros for adults. Children between the ages of six and 14 pay three euros. The 2024 season, which began on Good Friday, ends on Sunday, November 3.
The valley station of the cable car is located in the north of the city of Wiesbaden, very close to the Nero Valley facilities. You can reach the excursion destination by bus, train or car. Enter the following address in your sat nav or navigation app: Wilhelminenstraße 51, 65193 Wiesbaden.
The Nerobergbahn - a moving monument
Of course, you can also walk the 245 meters up the Neroberg . But it would be a great shame to miss the ride on the Nerobergbahn. For one thing, the pretty yellow train is a real gem with a nostalgic touch. On the other hand, the over 130-year-old drive is so smart that the three-and-a-half-minute ride is not only fun, but also has a certain technical charm: The carriages of the Nerobergbahn are connected to each other by wire ropes. The downhill carriage is weighted down with up to 7000 liters of water, pulling the lighter carriage up to the top station. At the end of the ride, the water is pumped up from below and the game starts all over again.
The journey on the Nerobergbahn, built in 1888, is an experience in itself. It runs from April to October and takes passengers to their destination high above the city every 15 minutes.
