Slaughterhouse

Culture in its many forms - accessible to all sections of the population and all ages.

The fact that Wiesbaden today not only has a spa park but also a cultural park is thanks to a group of people with amazing imagination. In the mid-1990s, this group discovered a disused, dilapidated slaughterhouse site for themselves. And saw the potential for a new cultural center here, of all places. In just a few years, the Schlachthof made a Cinderella-like ascent: The former no-man's land was voted Germany's Club of the Year several times and today it is impossible to imagine the region's cultural scene without it.

The Toten Hosen, Funny van Dannen and Jan Plewka have all given concerts here in recent years, as have a number of newcomers. The range of bands that play here in the hall, which was renovated in 2012, or open air in the Kulturpark in summer is extremely broad. Around 450 events are held every year at the Schlachthof cultural center, which is still run by a collective.

Even if there is nothing on the program one evening, the short walk from the main station along the tracks to the south is worthwhile: a new park with space to play and skate has also been created along the way. And in the striking water tower, which marks the Schlachthof site like a lighthouse, there is now also a pub, 60/40, with a beer garden and raw industrial style.

There is also no shortage of live music, even on concert-free evenings: Several bands now have their rehearsal rooms on the site.
