European Historic Thermal Towns Association (EHTTA) - European Thermal Heritage Day

Wiesbaden has been a member of the EHTTA since 2011, which is also certified as a cultural route of the Council of Europe. Every member city - including Wiesbaden - is therefore automatically part of the "European Route of Historic Thermal Towns".

Founded in 2009, the Association of European Historic Thermal Towns currently has 50 members in 18 countries. The non-profit organization is based in Spa in Belgium. In addition to Wiesbaden, the thermal towns of Baden-Baden, Bad Ems, Bad Kissingen and Bad Homburg are also members of the EHTTA in Germany. The eleven "Great Spa Towns of Europe", which were recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage List, are all members of the EHTTA.

Wiesbaden is part of a "Cultural Route of the Council of Europe"

The EHTTA has been certified as a "Cultural Route of the Council of Europe" for around ten years, meaning that every member city - including Wiesbaden - is automatically part of the "European Route of Historic Thermal Towns". The concept of cultural routes was initiated by the Council of Europe back in 1987. It wanted to implement its central cultural principles: Human rights, cultural democracy, cultural diversity and identity, dialog and exchange for mutual enrichment across all borders. The European Cultural Routes put these fundamental principles into practice at local level. Many cultural routes take up previously lesser-known themes and aspects of European history and cultures. They thus enable the discovery of new destinations and shed light on forgotten and hidden aspects of our common heritage. A Scientific Committee, the scientific advisory board, is mandatory for each cultural route in order to accompany and develop relevant key topics and issues, for example in the context of lobby events at national and European level.
