SDG "Clean water and sanitation"
In Hessian: "We don't care what happens to the water!"
What is the SDG "Clean Water and Sanitation" about and what does it mean for the event industry?
For the event industry, this means raising awareness of environmentally friendly practices when dealing with water and sanitary facilities. Event planners and service providers can contribute to the careful use of water resources by focusing on water efficiency, environmentally friendly sanitary technologies and waste reduction. Monitoring water consumption, resource efficiency and choosing sustainable venues also contribute to this goal.

What immediate actions can event professionals start with to contribute to SDG 6?
- Prioritize water efficiency: Venues should analyze water usage and implement efficient solutions, such as water-saving, low-flow fixtures, toilet flushing and irrigation systems, rainwater capture and use on rooftops and solar-covered parking lots.
- Optimize sanitary technologies: Introduce environmentally friendly sanitation solutions such as waterless urinals or dry toilets to reduce water consumption.
- Collect and analyze data: Monitor water consumption and wastewater output to identify potential improvements. Wastewater heat can also be used for heat pumps, for example.
- Choose sustainable event locations: Give preference to locations with a good water supply and adequate sanitary facilities. Give preference to locations that use rainwater for irrigation and toilet flushing.

How do we implement this?
✓ Prioritize water efficiency:
- The RMCC has a service water system with an external cistern and a capacity of 145 m³ of water. Rainwater is collected in the cistern, which is intercepted on the roof of the south area and fed into the cistern via a filter. The rainwater is used for toilet flushing, for watering the lawns in front of the building and for the water level in the three water basins in front of the building.
- The RMCC is equipped with toilets with a water-saving function and automatic taps at the washbasins.
✓ Use wastewater heat:
- The RMCC has a wastewater heat pump. The heat generated in this way is fed into the heating circuit and used to heat the underfloor heating, for example.
✓ Waste management in the sanitary area:
- Environmentally friendly sanitary technologies by installing dry towel dispensers in all sanitary areas of the RMCC as well as the office premises to avoid paper towel waste.
