Matthäuskirche

Wiesbaden architect Neuser created the parish centre in an adaptation of the Romanesque basilica in the 1960s. St. Matthew's Church was deliberately designed to be a flat, low building. White exposed concrete gives structure to the wall. Following the Late Antique architectural style, the bell tower stands next to the church as a separate structure. In the 1990s, the artistic windows and doors designed by Jürgen Traut replaced the grey industrial glass. The text of the Sermon on the Mount is depicted on squares with individual letters. The altarpiece by the painter Uhrig shows the end of the Gospel according to St. Matthew with the Great Commission to teach and to baptize. There is a two-manual Oberlinger organ with 22 registers designed by Hanns Brendel on the gallery of the church. The individual works are in separate casings. In 2001, the sacristy was converted into a "Room of Silence".
