Rheingau
The state capital of Wiesbaden and the neighboring Rheingau unite the different cultural and landscape areas in a very small area like hardly any other destination in Hesse.
The Rheingau is the epitome of a relaxed lifestyle, enjoyment and culture. It presents itself with individual diversity: the vineyards of the Rheingau winegrowers nestle gently undulating to breathtakingly steep against the foothills of the Taunus Mountains with its forests. Only here does Germany's largest river flow westwards. Historic, small and dreamy village centers like in Kiedrich enchant with their own charm - legendary Rüdesheimer Drosselgasse, elegant Eltviller Rheinufer. You are sure to find your very own favorite spot here.
Perhaps at the 'most beautiful wine view' in Lorch with a fantastic view over the Rhine Valley? Today, as has been the case for centuries, the prime areas of this landscape are reserved for Riesling and produce unique wines full of character and richness.
Enclaves such as the red wine town of Assmannshausen on the Rhine have also established themselves, where Pinot Noir red wines grow that need fear no international comparison. International classics such as Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and other 'Rheingau exotics' also have a place here. It is pleasing to note that the producers are very concerned about environmentally friendly and resource-conserving cultivation and development - and so more and more organic methods are being used.
