Favorite places in Wiesbaden: Andrea Grzeschik - The Kurhaus

The favorite place of Andrea Grzeschik - an employee of the Tourist Service - is located directly in Wiesbaden's city center: it is the Kurhaus am Bowling Green.

Favorite place Kurhaus.
Favorite places in Wiesbaden: Andrea Grzeschik - The Kurhaus.

A real showpiece in the center of Wiesbaden, and my personal favorite place, is today's magnificent Kurhaus. It was designed by architect Friedrich von Thiersch in the neoclassical style with Art Nouveau motifs and opened in 1907. The "old" Kurhaus by Christian Zais had become too small for the increasing number of spa guests - the new Kurhaus was larger, more modern and more prestigious.

Coming from Wilhelmstraße, the shopping and promenade mile, you have a fantastic view of the bowling green in front of it, a lawn with two terraced fountains, and the Kurhaus behind it. The bowling green is framed by the longest columned hall in Europe, the Kurhaus Colonnade, and the theater colonnade opposite with the main entrance to the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden.

When entering the red carpet on the stairs of the Kurhaus, the first thing that impresses you is the columned portico with the Latin inscription "Aquis Mattiacis", a reminder of the warm springs in Wiesbaden.

The foyer is reached via revolving glass doors. The entrance hall, an imposing large hall with a 21-metre-high dome, forms the focal point between the north and south wings of the building. If you look around here, you will find statues, colorful mosaics and stained glass windows facing east and west. From the foyer, you enter the two large, imposing halls named after the architects of the two spa buildings.

From here, you can also access the former wine salon, which now houses one of the most beautiful and traditional casinos, and the Kurhaus restaurant with its very special flair.

The Kurhaus is now used as an event venue. Enjoying a concert, prom or corporate event in one of the large halls is a real highlight! But the smaller rooms, such as the Muschelsaal, the Carl-Schuricht-Saal and the Carl-von-Ibell-Zimmer, are also available for hire and are often used for corporate events or special family celebrations.

There are offices on the upper floor. Opposite the entrance area, at the other end of the foyer, glass doors lead into the spa gardens with its pond, where you can enjoy quiet, relaxing moments in the greenery in the middle of the city at any time.
