Westend

With more than 60 specialty stores, the Westend is Wiesbaden's liveliest district. The district's urban charm is evident in its carefully restored buildings and lively social life.

There are quite a few superlatives that characterize this district in the west of Wiesbaden's city center: Westend is not only the smallest district in the city in terms of area, but also the most densely populated with 18,000 inhabitants. It has the youngest inhabitants, almost half of whom have a migration background. All this makes the Westend a lively and colorful hipster among Wiesbaden's neighborhoods.

The Westend vibe can be felt particularly well in the evenings around Sedanplatz: various restaurants serve the variety that makes up this multicultural district until late in the evening - Hessian specialties as well as gyros, sushi, tapas or kebabs. Wilhelminian-style façades characterize the streets, but the many backyards also show that this district was not built for the upper middle classes around 100 years ago. Instead, it was for the many craftsmen who were urgently needed in the growing spa town. To this day, work continues in these courtyards - albeit more recently on creative ideas and designs.

However, the Bismarckring runs right through the middle of Westend, forming a kind of border. On one side, as far as Schwalbacher Strasse, is the particularly vibrant, but also somewhat rough inner Westend, especially in Wellritzstrasse and Bleichstrasse. In contrast, the outer Westend up to Elsässer Platz is much quieter. Here, in Blücherstrasse and Scharnhorststrasse, for example, you are more likely to find organic cafés and boutiques.
