Thermine light rail
If you want to see and hear a lot of the city in a short time, a tour on the Thermine is the perfect option.
In 50 minutes, the little wine-red streetcar (of which there are two models: Thermine or Lili) travels at a very leisurely pace to the city's most important sights. It starts at the market, from there via Wilhelmstraße to the Kurhaus, then along the Kurpark and stately villas up to the Neroberg. Along the way, the audio guide tells history and stories in a lively, colorful way and not just in dry facts and figures.
Passengers can take a look at the official villa of the Hessian Minister President, see the walls of the BKA, the headquarters of the German criminal police, or imagine themselves in the year 1848, when Adolf von Nassau held a fairytale wedding in Wiesbaden. His bride was the beautiful and young niece of the Tsar: Elisabeth Mikhailovna. Their marriage was short and the end was painful; Elisabeth and her child died a year after the wedding. Her sarcophagus is located in the Russian Orthodox Church on the Neroberg - the station where the streetcar takes a short break before returning to the market square.
There is a special audio guide version for children, in which little Maxi travels through her home town in the Thermine together with her grandpa and has him explain the secrets and peculiarities of the city to her. The whole thing is spiced up with a pinch of magic, because Maxi also has her secrets. If you and your children sit in different carriages, you can enjoy both versions as a family - and discuss who chose the more exciting version during the break on the Neroberg.
