The Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden is one of the most successful theaters in the German-speaking world. It is also an important festival company, presenting the annual International May Festival and the "Theater Biennale - New Plays from Europe" every two years.

The Staatstheater Wiesbaden is a five-division theater with opera, ballet, drama, young state theater and concerts.

It has four stages: the Main Theater with 1,041 seats, the Small Theater with 328 seats, the Studio with 89 seats and the external venue Wartburg with 154 seats in Schwalbacher Straße. The artistic directors since the 2024 season are Beate Heine and Dorothea Hartmann.

A tip for anyone who has managed to get tickets for one of the events at the Staatstheater: Reserve a glass of sparkling wine and canapés in advance online and enjoy them in one of the salons or in the foyer gallery. It's a pure head trip back to the imperial era - with the difference that today everyone is allowed to ascend to these higher realms.
