Nassau Art Association
Located directly in the center of Wiesbaden at Wilhelmstraße 15, the Nassauischer Kunstverein with its approximately 350 square meters of exhibition space in a historic villa is an address for contemporary art.
Very few art museums can boast so many premieres: the Nassauischer Kunstverein has expressly dedicated itself to the mission of offering a stage to young and not yet established artists from all over the world. In addition to the Kunstverein team, guest curators regularly decide who gets this stage. The changing exhibitions are accompanied by guided tours, but also by interdisciplinary discussions and events.
The Nassauischer Kunstverein thus remains true to the principle according to which a small group from the city's upper middle classes curated an exhibition in the painting room of the Erbprinzenpalais in 1847 - and founded the association for this purpose. Artists from Germany and abroad were on display in the palace at the time, with older and, above all, more recent works of art. Since then, what is now the city's oldest citizens' initiative has been working to revitalize the art scene, since 1979 at its current headquarters in an old villa on Wilhelmstrasse.
This villa not only exhibits art, it is also home to the people who created these works. The association invites people to Wiesbaden with two scholarships: "Follow Fluxus" is aimed at up-and-coming international artists who follow the Fluxus art movement. This movement emerged in the early 1960s, with prominent representatives such as Joseph Beuys and Nam June Paik. In cooperation with the University of Minnesota, students from the USA are also regular guests.
Like the art world, the association is constantly changing. This is precisely why it is regularly voted one of the best art associations in Germany.
