Kunsthaus exterior view

The Kunsthaus is a meeting place and attraction for artists and art lovers alike. It is enthroned on Wiesbaden's Schulberg hill and consists of an old building and a new building opened in 2011. The new building houses the ground-floor art gallery, which is over 300 square meters in size, and the Artothek of the municipal art collection, which lends out works of art for a fee - paintings, prints, sculptures and objects. The old building houses a further exhibition space (auditorium), artists' studios and the Fine Arts Department / Wiesbaden Cultural Office.

The Schulberg is located in the immediate vicinity of the city center, just a few steps away from the memorial to the murdered Jews of Wiesbaden on Michelsberg. The two-storey, palace-like Kunsthaus by architect Philipp Hoffmann was completed in 1863 and was first used as an elementary school, then from 1919 onwards as a crafts and arts and crafts school, from which the renowned Werkkunstschule later emerged, whose students included the artist Peter Roehr. Since 1989, the administration of the Kunsthaus has been in the hands of the Wiesbaden Department of Culture.
