Active Museum Spiegelgasse
The "Active Museum Spiegelgasse for German-Jewish History in Wiesbaden" is more than just an ordinary museum.
Remembering is an activity, it can take effort and work. The Active Museum Spiegelgasse sees itself as a place of living remembrance work, which explains the name of the museum, which is located in one of the oldest Jewish residential buildings in Wiesbaden. People, things and events are forgotten if there is no one to actively preserve their memory. The museum team prevents this from happening to the city's Jewish history. Although the museum does not have its own collection, it is extremely active when it comes to finding partners and contemporary witnesses with whom to organize lectures, workshops and exhibitions. Around four different exhibitions a year take place here in the half-timbered house dating back to 1735.
The museum's commitment can also be experienced very concretely in Wiesbaden's town hall. The museum team has created a moving permanent exhibition in a memorial room for the victims of the Nazi era. In addition to documents, photographs and eyewitness accounts, there are also changing "memorial sheets" on display, each of which presents a person or family from the circle of Shoa victims. These are fates that you remember, that touch you and that remain in your memory. And the museum is always remembering anew - actively fighting against forgetting.

Activities
The main activities of the Active Museum Spiegelgasse (AMS) include changing exhibitions at Spiegelgasse 11 (near Kochbrunnen), the long-standing projects "Erinnerungsblätter" and "Stolpersteine" as well as the development and maintenance of an extensive, publicly accessible specialist library with currently around 5,500 volumes. There are also events such as guided tours, readings, theater performances, discussion events and more.
As a non-profit organization, the AMS offers various opportunities to get involved. On the one hand, anyone who is interested is welcome to volunteer. On the other hand, the AMS always needs financial support, for example in the form of donations or sponsoring memberships.
