Hiking trails in the geoportal
Hiking trails in the geoportal

A new application has been added to the municipal geoportal in cooperation with the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park: since August 12, 2021, the hiking trails in the Wiesbaden city area and neighboring municipalities known to the Civil Engineering and Surveying Office can be viewed by all citizens in the thematic maps/recreational maps section. The 47 hiking trails recorded so far have a total length of almost 393 kilometers.

Leisure portal of the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park.

For the wider Rheingau Taunus region, the nature park's leisure portal offers an impressive overview of the marked hiking trails, sights, events and much more. Themed pages show pre-sorted results, for example for families on the map, and those looking for something very specific can use filter functions and search input for specific terms or locations.

Many other functions make route planning easier. In addition to the basic data, such as route length, altitude and walking time, there are picture impressions and a short description. The altitude profile, contact information and directions round off the planning content. There are also options for using GoogleMaps navigation to drive directly to the starting point or to find the right public transport connection to the next stop. GPX files can be downloaded and integrated into the individual hiking apps. A share button allows you to share with friends and acquaintances so that you can meet up at the starting point if necessary.

There are also two extras: The portal can be customized, for example by saving favourites and adjusting the walking time to the fitness level in five steps. The background maps can be switched between hiking map, road map and public transport map for better planning. A defect detector helps to detect damage to the paths at an early stage and to be able to react.

Further information can be found in the leisure portal and on the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park website. There you will also find answers to questions and explanatory videos.
