School network
The schools in Wiesbaden were one of the first in Germany to be connected to each other and to the Internet via the WieS@N ("Wiesbadener Schulen am Netz") school network. Information about the structure and characteristics of the network can be found below.
General description
The requirements for the central Wiesbaden school network have changed significantly in recent years. Numerous services for simplifying tasks and organizing life are also expected to be useful for everyday teaching. Cloud services that can be used as a matter of course are constantly posing new challenges on the network side. Topics such as "bring your own device" present both teachers and the school's internal network infrastructure with new tasks. Central services also had to be adapted accordingly. To ensure that these requirements could be implemented, the network structure, the bandwidths of the connections and the permeability or restrictions of the firewall and the protection of minors were adapted and regularly reviewed. We paid particular attention to maintaining a protected environment for Wiesbaden schoolchildren. Ensuring the secure operation and further development of the Wiesbaden school network remain core tasks of the IT department's work.
