Taunusstraße

Taunusstraße is one of those streets in Wiesbaden whose grandeur comes from the nearly completely preserved building façades inspired by Historicism.

In 1815, the northern side of the Taunusstraße was planned and built in the period to 1826. Construction along the southern side followed between 1843 and 1857 after a stream (Schwarzbach) had been redirected into an underground conduit.

After 1866, the two-storey buildings built in the period to 1826 were replaced by four-storey late-classicist structures. Formerly known primarily for its antique shops, today, this splendid street is increasingly distinguished by cafés and restaurants.
