Kurhaus
The Kurhaus building marks the architectural high-point of the city's development into a Kurbad, or spa. In 1907, the Emperor Wilhelm II officially opened the Kurhaus; on 11 May 2007 its 100 year anniversary was commemorated. Emperor Wilhelm II ordered the construction of the Kurhaus, which architect Friedrich von Thiersch designed as a "synthesis of Wilhelminian architecture and view of life". One of the halls was named after him.
The entrance hall of the Kurhaus consists of a magnificent foyer covered by a 21 metre high cupola.
Today, the historical Kurhaus, fitted with the latest technology, is a centre for congresses and meetings, exhibitions and cultural events.
