Commander District
The Commander District in the outskirts of Westend was built for small business owners and the streets were named after famous commanders in the wars against Napoleon and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871.
Reinhard Baumeister, who is the originator of the urban planning concept of 1894, introduced curved streets, departing from the rigid grid pattern of the southern part of town and the Westend proper.
