Bonifatiuskirche

Luisenstraße 31

In 1831, shortly before the consecration of the new church built to plans drafted by Friedrich Ludwig Schrumpf, the new structure collapsed. In May 1843, a second attempt was made: Philipp Hoffmann was awarded the contract to build the church at Luisenplatz. At that time there had been no Catholic parish here since the reformation. Since the funds necessary for the construction of the church were not available, Father Petmecky collected donations.

For this reason, the laying of the corner stone had to be put off until 5 June 1845, Saint Bonifacius Day. The Bishop of Limburg, Josef Peter Blum, consecrated the unfinished church in June 1949. Before the interior furnishings could be put in and the towers built donations, had to be collected again; these jobs were carried out between 1864 and 1866.
The protestant community was permitted to use the Catholic Bonifacius Church after the Mauritius Church burned down in 1850. In the church dispute of 1876-78, however, the Catholic community was compelled to transfer their church to the Old Catholic Church.

In 1945, the church was hit by bombs and lost its stained-glass windows.
